To commemorate National Women's Day, Afrikaans singer-songwriter Karen Zoid has put together a playlist that spotlights what she affectionally terms her “Powerpuff Girls”. Just like the cartoon’s super-powered sisters Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, the ladies featured here persevered in spite of the odds, raging against female stereotypes and creating their own space. As Karen puts it, these are “my favourite songs by female artists I love and adore. 50 women who gave a damn.”
