No Nê

No Nê

The third album from one of Vietnam’s leading alt-rappers, No Nê sees Suboi at her most introspective. She gave birth to a daughter during the seven years since 2014’s RUN, so the album is graced by themes of motherhood and the uncertainty of life. The artist raps over beats from a range of genres, experiments with autotune and incorporates local elements—most notably the sounds of street hawkers that feature on “Ngày Lại Ngày”, a track written with her spouse, Nodey. The album title means “full” but the juxtaposition with the English reading “none” is spotlighted on the moving anthem “Cho Không”, which reminds listeners that life ought to be lived with the whole heart.
