Simple Minds Essentials

Simple Minds began in Glasgow in the early post-punk era, with their early albums featuring an arty experimental bent. By the early '80s, singer Jim Kerr's commanding vocals and an increasingly elegant musical style led to UK hits like "I Travel" and "Promised You A Miracle." After 1984's Sparkle in the Rain introduced a U2-inspired sense of drama, their performance of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" in the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club made them international superstars and permanently shifted their sound to stadium-sized bombast.
