Herb Alpert Essentials

Herb Alpert has enjoyed one of the most successful music careers in history, both as a GRAMMY®-winning performer and as a record executive. Alpert began as a songwriter for Sam Cooke, among others, before forming the Tijuana Brass, a Latin-flavored pop-jazz act. He scored six Grammys and outsold The Beatles in the mid-'60s while also overseeing his own label, A&M, with partner Jerry Moss. Among its biggest acts were the Carpenters, Sergio Mendes, and Janet Jackson, who brought A&M Top 10 singles in three different decades. In 1979, a disco-tinged instrumental netted him his second No. 1 hit.
