About Dream Nails

British four-piece Dream Nails play true to their D.I.Y. roots, with their riotous live shows and feminist activism culminating in the release of their 2020 eponymous debut album. The band was formed in London in 2015 by Janey Starling (vocals) and Anya Pearson (guitars) -- who had met each other through their involvement in feminist activism -- and the pair drafted in fellow activists Emmett Roberts (bass) and Judith Dawson (drums). Delivering their message through the D.I.Y. punk and riot grrrl underground, the self-professed "witch punk" quartet took inspiration from the original riot grrrl scene headed by the likes of Huggy Bear, Bikini Kill, and Skinned Teen. The following year, Dream Nails delivered their first single, "Deep Heat," as well as the self-released EP DIY. 2016 also saw the group invited to play the women-only stage, Sisterhood, at Glastonbury, while they also parted ways with Dawson, who was replaced by Lucy Katz. Making a name for themselves with their riotous live shows, Dream Nails joined Cherry Glazerr on the band's European tour in 2017. Later that year, the quartet issued their second EP, Dare to Care, for the French punk label Krod Records. Following a year of successful live dates, lineup changes (Mimi Jasson replaced Roberts on bass), and the self-released live acoustic album Take Up Space, Dream Nails signed a deal with Alcopop! in 2019. A string of singles -- including "Text Me Back (Chirpse Degree Burns)," "Corporate Realness," and "Payback" -- appeared at the end of the year and into the next before the band issued their eponymous debut album, Dream Nails, in mid-2020. ~ Rich Wilson
