You Finally Knew

You Finally Knew

With You Finally Knew, Chad Lawson takes us from our everyday lives toward a calmer, more contemplative space. There’s a timelessness to his music—unmistakably contemporary, yes, but much of it, including the “Waltz in B Minor,” “Ballade in A Minor,” and “Prelude in D Major,” looks back to Chopin with its nostalgic quality and graceful melodies that soar over rich accompaniments. Elsewhere, Lawson’s music is defiantly his own: “Stay” ripples with an imploring intensity, while “One Day You Finally Knew” aches with a pervading melancholy, its major key enhancing the wistful mood. “In the Waiting” wears a hymnlike beauty, “Rain” a charming innocence that draws to a hesitant, questioning close.
