Tudo

Here, singer Bebel Gilberto returns with her fifth studio effort, Tudo. With producer Mario Caldato of Beastie Boys fame at the helm, she continues with her signature modern bossa nova style, filled out with textured electronic filigree and occasional tasteful string arrangements. Caldato and her regular working band update the acoustic bossa nova sound on tunes like “Suadade Vem Correndo,” “Vivo Sonhando,” and the title cut. Things are more plugged-in and swanky for “Tout Est Bleu” and “Inspiracao.” Old friend Seu Jorge stops by for a duet on “Novas Ideias,” which is as upbeat and playful as one could hope for, but the sunny opener “Somewhere Else” is perhaps even lighter. She also does an exceptional cover of Jobim’s “Vivo Sonhando,” which is to be expected, and stunning voice–and–acoustic guitar take on Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” which is a welcome surprise. The title here means “everything” in Portuguese, and this album is certainly everything her fans could hope for.
