Time

Time

In the years following Arashi's exciting debut single, "A・RA・SHI," and album Arashi No.1 Ichigou: Arashi wa Arashi o Yobu!, which debuted at No. 1, the five-member J-pop group struggled to match its immediate success. But seventh album Time was a sign of better things to come. In 2006, ARASHI’s bubbly celebration “Love so Sweet” became the group’s biggest hit to date and a chance for it to connect with a larger audience than ever before as the theme song for TV drama Boys Over Flowers, a popular romance series starring ARASHI member Jun Matsumoto. The song was an encapsulation of the group’s strengths, with its uptempo pace, use of strings to accent its emotional message, and its rousing chorus. “Love so Sweet” stayed in the Top 10 for five straight weeks, becoming one of the year’s best-selling songs and a perfect introduction to the album Time’s songs gave listeners a chance to hear where ARASHI was at in 2007. A handful of tunes stuck to the R&B format central to the group’s early days, while showing how ARASHI continued to find new angles on the genre. Yet Time shined thanks to the string-and-piano assisted positive pop that “Love so Sweet” represented, a harbinger of what was to come. The group finally had its breakout song, which providedTime with a pivot point directed toward ARASHI’s dynamic new sound. Symbolically, this album doesn’t feature any solo showcases but rather presents ARASHI as a united front taking its next creative steps.
