The fifth album from New Zealand songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Devin Abrams has been years in the making. In 2019 Abrams began work on the track “Cold Nights” (which is about struggling through hard times in a friendship or relationship but still wanting to fight for it), collaborating with LA-based duo Ni/Co before the pandemic hit and sent him back to Aotearoa to complete the song. In the years following, Abrams—who was previously a member of drum ’n’ bass outfit Shapeshifter—set about concocting a collection of tracks that melds the genres he’s previously inhabited, such as electronic, ambient, and progressive pop, all the while collecting a who’s who of collaborators including Stan Walker and Larissa Lambert (“Cold Nights”), Foley (“Domino”), and Louis Baker (“Back to You”).
