The Lost Demos

The Lost Demos

Plenty of performers lose interest in keeping up with the ever-evolving, youth-driven language of pop music after a while, but not TobyMac. The singer, rapper, and songwriter started releasing buoyant Christian hip-hop with DC Talk in 1989, and by 2001 had moved on to energetically updating the sound of his solo work. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the previously unreleased odds and ends he collected from old hard drives while sheltering from the pandemic and decided to release as the Lost Demos EP reflect not only uplifting sentiments but sprightly production ideas. During “Love of My Life,” the discofied dance beat makes his vow of devotion feel ebullient, while "On Your Own" and "The Real You" both set friendly encouragement to reggaetón-influenced grooves.
