The Essential Jerry Reed

The Essential Jerry Reed

Jerry Reed was a man of many musical personalities: the hotshot guitarist who gave Chet Atkins a run for his money, the happy-go-lucky hitmaker, the burnished balladeer, and more. But this compilation focuses on Reed's most popular mode: purveyor of a loose-limbed country/R&B amalgam full of good-time vibes and semi-spoken vocals. In this guise, Reed scored his biggest hits, like the ubiquitous 1971 smash "When You're Hot, You're Hot" and the automobile addict's plaint "Lord, Mr. Ford." He takes on the mantle of country-pop crooner quite convincingly on "A Thing Called Love" and lets his guitar skills shine on the masterful acoustic-based instrumental "The Claw."
