Tender Symmetry

Tender Symmetry

These evocative, richly scored works were inspired by, and recorded at, National Trust spaces across the UK, including monastic ruins and World War II tunnels. Sandham Memorial Chapel in Hampshire is the setting for “Sandham,” a choral work that evokes the chant-like style of John Tavener, while Price harks back to Vaughan Williams in his music for the Tudor-built Speke Hall near Liverpool (“Speke”). Price’s use of each acoustic is fascinating, the music often mixing with ambient sounds, as in “Willow Road,” or crafted for the building’s original use—pulsing, pounding music for strings paints a picture of the mill at Cheshire’s Quarry Bank. A thrilling musical journey.
