All Time Greatest Hits

All Time Greatest Hits

Before yelling “Freebird!” like you were at a concert, be aware that this awesome Lynyrd Skynyrd collection closes with an epic live version. Stretching for well over 14 minutes, this lengthy take was recorded at Atlanta's Fox Theater during the band’s 1976 tour. But that’s only part of what makes this All Time Greatest Hits compilation so cool. The folks who pieced it together were seemingly aware that there are already several Skynyrd anthologies out there, so they chose some less obvious gems to pepper this one. Rather than throw in the original recording of “All I Can Do Is Write About It” from Skynyrd’s fourth studio album (Gimme Back My Bullets), the version here was pulled from the band's self-titled 1991 box set. Indubitably, the Lynyrd Skynyrd household hits that have come to define the band are here too. All Time Greatest Hits appropriately opens with the Dixie flag–waving, Neil Young–dissing Southern rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama,” followed by the brawl-dodging boogie-rocker “Gimme Three Steps.”
