Strictly Business

Strictly Business

Repping for the unlikely locale of Lebanon, Tenn., Haystak has dropped 18 albums since his 1998 debut, Mak Million. He's also made several mixtapes and done occasional film work (he appeared in Hustle and Flow). With his large frame and husky, slow-motion flow, he's established a loyal fanbase (mostly in the South) and records new material at a feverish rate. On Strictly Business, he teams with Nashville emcee and frequent collaborator Jelly Roll for 22 tracks that touch on the usual topics: doing dirt in the streets, avoiding the feds, and chilling in the Cadillac. He also addresses more serious topics like race issues and growing up without a father. Though a few of the songs are already available (on the Gamblin on a Whiteboy 4 mixtape), there are definitely some bangers here. Fans of 'Stak, Jelly, and their syrupy, slow-rolling Southern rap vibe will be psyched. Check out "Squad Up" and "Sex Appeal" with Big Snap and Lil Zo.
