Air Texture VIII (Anthony Naples + DJ Python)

Since its inception in 2011, the Air Texture series has been a reliably interesting effort in drawing together the fringes of house, ambient music, and underground electronics—think Kompakt’s Pop Ambient for a crunchier generation. VIII is on the clubbier side of the spectrum, a relative term given that curators DJ Python and Anthony Naples are best-known for music that makes you think about clubs—What are they for? What do people do there?—instead of feeling like you’re actually in one. Their collaborations—the dembow-via-Chicago house of “Entouré” and the 8-bit ambience of “Final Speaking”—are great, as are Bitter Babe & Nick León’s “Ecotone” and rrao’s “Zindagi,” both of which conjure the incomparable lushness of rainforests and other places where most of us go only in the mind. Pure Moods for moderns.
