On Sketches, pianist, violinist, producer, and neoclassical composer Poppy Ackroyd reworks some of her previous pieces while also delivering four new recordings. Her musical voice is gentle and haunting, tapping into a language spoken by Hauschka, Nils Frahm, and Max Richter—melodic but far from naïve or conventional. Piano and violin are heard in strikingly new aural perspectives, and natural sounds often break in with powerful results. This is music that sneaks up on you and exerts a strong magic.
