Psycho Active

Psycho Active

There's no shortage of self-proclaimed ruthless killers in rap music, but Sacramento MC X-Raided takes it to the next level. Shortly after the release of this relentlessly hardcore debut album, he was convicted of gang-related murder and sentenced to several decades in prison. Recorded when he was just a teenager, Psycho Active is one of the most absurdly violent records ever made, so over-the-top that it is simultaneously appalling and hilarious. Released in 1992, the production is low-budget but extraordinarily catchy, jam-packed with familiar funk samples and super rugged beats provided by fellow Sactown lunatic Brotha Lynch Hung. X's unusual accent makes his brutal verses even more compelling, as he sounds off about life as a member of the notorious Garden Blocc Crips, replete with bloody massacres, drug-fueled rampages, cannibalism, sodomy, etc. Certainly not for sensitive ears, but ideal for fans of extra-graphic gangsta rap (think Geto Boys, N.W.A, Poison Clan), with standout tracks like "Everybody Killa," "Bitch Killa," and "Still Shooting."
