Though this Sonoran norteño group is technically named for its bandleader elder, his son Cornelio Vega Jr. has steadily become its most visible member in recent years. Through hits like “El Primero” and “No Me Hubiera Enamorado,” the young singer and his star power helped transform the family-centric project into a formidable presence in regional Mexican music. From the opening take on “Noches De Junio” to the spirited finale “La Hungara,” their latest effort Pura Pieza de Mi Gusto approaches both familiars and favorites with respect and flair. Ramon Vega joins in for the Chayanne pop classic “Un Siglo Sin Ti,” arguably the clearest example of the breadth of Vega’s musical tastes.
