Pink Heartz (Apple Music Edition)

Pink Heartz (Apple Music Edition)

When SoFaygo’s 2019 breakthrough hit, “Knock Knock,” went viral on social media, the Atlanta rapper got instantly propelled into superstardom, receiving love from artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Gunna, and proved to be a perfect fit for Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack label. Months of buildup and an EP (B4pink) later, Pink Heartz has finally arrived. “Having a pink heart just means wearing your heart on your sleeve, being yourself completely all the way, no what people saying or what these people over here doing, you just being you throughout everything,” SoFaygo tells Apple Music. “I think that’s the definition of me. That’s who I am. Regardless of all the noise, I’m continuing to remain myself and continuing to do music.” The Up Next artist has seemed to create his lane within the genre, blending trap and melody into his unique sound, which can be heard throughout the 16-track project. Pink Heartz takes listeners on a journey into some of the things that SoFaygo must deal with due to his newfound fame, such as the high that comes from being in the spotlight (“Forever”), jealousy from so-called friends (“Greed,” “Price”), and spiraling emotions (“Transparency”). He also enlists some of hip-hop’s heavyweights and contemporary hitmakers, adding an extra layer to his sound. On “Take Off,” which features DJ Khaled and Gunna and production from Pharrell, SoFaygo talks about the naysayers who didn’t believe in his dream. “Pharrell’s such a cool dude,” he says. “He’s so chill and just down to earth. Working with him, it was so easy. It was easy in a way, like he made me feel comfortable in the atmosphere.” Other guests include Lil Uzi Vert, who spits a few bars on “Stay Awake”; labelmate Don Toliver on the hypnotic “Slip”; and Ken Carson on the energetic closer, “Hell Yeah.”
