After long stays with the Fania All-Stars and the Willie Colón Orchestra, Héctor Lavoe's smooth voice had become one of salsa's most seductive sounds. There's plenty of seduction on his solo debut, with love songs ("Mucho Amor") alongside Christian sentiments and cultural songs ("Rompe Saraguey," about an herbal ritual). The anthemic "Mi Gente," saluting his Puerto Rican roots, became one of his signature hits. Colón’s orchestra provides smooth grooves throughout; don't sleep on the tasty vibes solo on "Un Amor de la Calle.”
