JHUD

JHUD

Go ahead and judge this album by its cover: from her leather jacket to her new 'do to her no-nonsense expression, this shows Jennifer Hudson at her fiercest. Produced primarily by Pharrell Williams, JHUD abounds with energetic dance grooves. It's a sleeker, mostly new sound for Hudson, and she knocks it out of the park. "He Ain't Going Nowhere" is body-rocking funk, with a guest verse from Iggy Azalea that twists around the song's rolling beat. "It's Your World" is vintage roller-rink disco, complete with strings and R. Kelly's tempestuous crooning. "I Still Love You," produced by the U.K. duo Gorgon City, is garage-inflected pop that finds Hudson in full diva mode. This is a bold new look for the singer/actress, and it works.
