HITGIRL

HITGIRL

If you were worried about Dreezy’s swagger since the reception of 2019’s criminally underappreciated Big Dreez, or the ensuing separation from her former label, don’t be. “I’m too lit to be a n***a housewife/This ain’t no whip on tour, I copped it outright,” she tells us proudly on “Vibez,” from HITGIRL. The song is one of several lyrical showcases on the Hit-Boy-executive-produced project, which serves as a continuous affirmation that as long as she has access to a microphone, Dreezy gon’ be all right. It’s a 10-track peek into the mind of the Chicago MC that includes ruminations on the effect her success has on the company she keeps (“Phases,” “Real Ain’t Real”), the kind of love she wants in her life ("21 Questions,” “In Touch”), and, of course, plenty of flexing atop premium Hit-Boy production (“Sliders,” “Jackson 5,” “They Not Ready”). Dreezy added voices like Future, Jeremih, and Coi Leray’s for good measure, but the biggest takeaway from the project is that every good Hit-Boy can always use a HITGIRL.
