Burlington, Ontario, band Walk Off the Earth’s HERE WE GO! arrived less than a year after the sudden death of their towering multi-instrumentalist Mike Taylor (affectionately known as Beard Guy) in December 2018. But that tragedy has only emboldened their commitment to creating uplifting communal anthems. HERE WE GO! earns its all-caps emphasis and exclamation point from the get-go with the inspirational indie pop of “I’ll Be There,” where singers Gianni “Luminati” Nicassio and Sarah Blackwood offer up words of support and encouragement in dark times over a windswept tropical rhythm. And the group is at their most ebullient on “Addicted,” a song that manages to invoke folk, reggae, R&B, and EDM without ever conforming to a particular style. Even when they’re directly addressing the loss of their bandmate on the acoustic ballad “Mike’s Song,” they can’t help but transform a melancholic meditation on death into an impassioned celebration of life.
