Good Souls Better Angels

Good Souls Better Angels

It’s a bit jarring at first, hearing Lucinda Williams sing about things other than her relationships, family, and personal philosophy on Good Souls Better Angels. But her songwriting talent is so immense that her new POV becomes relatable almost immediately. Williams has inspired generations of singers to dive deep into their emotions and reflect the discoveries outwards, but on her 14th studio album, she’s speaking to the activist in all of us. It’s an album of righteous protest, featuring songs about the president and self-empowerment. Williams leans more towards the political than the personal throughout, but she knows better than most that the two are inevitably intertwined.
