The Parlay

The Parlay

A two-man group from Lansing, Mich., The Specktators comprise producer Moe-T and emcee Packi. Since coming together in 2009, they've released several high-quality mixtapes, including Familiar with Floss, The Never Ending Mixtape, and The Sunroom, culminating in the self-released compilation The Transition. Having developed a strong and passionate fanbase, they now hit us with The Parley, their first official album. Not bothering with fake thug posturing or wannabe kingpin tall tales, these guys are all about having fun, kickin' it with the ladies, and staying in their party-rap lane. With a somewhat squeaky flow (slightly reminiscent of Time Machine), good-natured everyman lyrics, and club-centric beats full of gigantic low-end, freaky synths and Dirty South–meets–outer space drum programming, they're definitely onto something, and could easily make the jump from young up-and-comers to legit hip-hop stars. Check out "Groovy Chick," "Defining Moment," and "Pacific Time."
