Jonathan Tetelman trained as a baritone but switched to the tenor voice in his twenties, scoring spectacular successes on the international opera circuit. His debut album reveals a stunningly powerful voice, rich in baritonal resonance but ringing fearlessly in the upper register. “Di quella pira” from Verdi’s Il trovatore (Track 16) is fierily heroic, while “Addio fiorito asil” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (Track 14) wells with lyric fervor. “La fleur que tu m’avais jetée” from Bizet’s Carmen (Track 5) highlights the tender side of Tetelman’s artistry, as does the soulful “M’apparì tutt’amor” from Flotow’s Martha (Track 4). The Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria lends ardent support to Tetelman’s thrilling recital.
