Antiphon

Antiphon

There’s a seductive, brooding quality to Antiphon, the inspired debut album from British keyboardist and producer Alfa Mist. Threading together elements of jazz, soul, and hip-hop, Mist and cohorts lock into loosely flowing vamps and imaginative, highly skilled improvisations, with every track grounded in a distinct compositional idea. The kinetic drumming of Jamie Houghton (or Gaspar Sena on two tracks) keeps the music alert, and the shredding guitar vocabulary of Mansur Brown on “Potential” and “Kyoki” is utterly gripping.
