Never

Never

Where Micachu’s debut kept one foot in traditional noise pop, her band’s 2012 follow-up forges its own language out of screech, rumble, and clang. “Easy” opens with what sounds like a tornado of broken bedsprings, with Micachu’s clear voice as the eye of the storm. “Never” and “Waste” build out her buzzing bag of tricks with frenetic guitars and lo-fi vocal distortion—with nerve-rackingly exhilarating results. It’s not all so antic: “Low Dogg” eases into a slinky hip-hop groove that highlights her rhythmic sense.
