The Statik-Free - EP

The Statik-Free - EP

A collaboration between super-producer Statik Selektah and Philly MC/Roc-A-Fella refuge Freeway, the Statik-Free EP was recorded entirely in one day, something that Statik has done previously on projects with Saigon (All In a Day's Work, and Termanology (The Evening News). While skeptics might think the resulting EP to be haphazard, rushed, or half-baked, that is clearly not the case here. Instead, we are treated to seven neck-breaking tracks that showcase both Free's aggressive, love-it-or-hate-it rhyme style, set to the type of punishing, sample-saturated beats we've come to expect from the Massachusetts maestro. Going the classic route, the production here is a dope combination of chopped loops, rugged drum breaks, and plenty of actual scratching, while Freeway sounds off about hip-hop and daily life in the city. Features include Mac Miller on the home-state anthem "P.A.," Lil Fame and Term on the aptly titled "From the Street," Jakk Frost and Tek on "And It Don't Quit," and Bay luminaries the Jacka and Husalah on the closer "All Kinds of Em."
