In 1995, a recording of Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater established countertenor Andreas Scholl as a voice of breathtaking beauty and flexibility. More than two decades on, and in the same work, Scholl’s voice remains mightily impressive, an instrument of striking beauty. He’s joined by sopranos Hanna Herfurtner and Joowon Chung for Vivaldi’s famous Gloria: soloists, choir, and orchestra are in fine form on this live recording.
