A variety of sirens lent weight to the third album by This Mortal Coil, the ever-changing collective helmed by 4AD label head Ivo Watts-Russell. This collection refracts surreal '60s and '70s folk through a prism of melancholy synths, gothic strings, and layers of reverb, while interspersing instrumental interludes. "Late Night," penned by Syd Barrett, becomes a spacious, oddly foreboding ambient lullaby, while Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly achieve striking harmony on the plucky, minimalist cover of Chris Bell’s "You and Your Sister."
