In order to fully experience the master showmanship of Alice Cooper's '86 comeback concert, you had to be there to witness the crazy theatrics. But as these live songs can attest, The Nightmare Returns wasn’t just a visual affair. From the opening of “Welcome To My Nightmare” you can hear and feel the pulsing energy of a highly enthusiastic audience and band feeding off each other in a symbiosis that yielded these animated recordings. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” rocks so fervently, it doesn’t even matter that Alice is singing a bit off key in the chorus. Even the maudlin “Only Women Bleed” seems to feed off the heat produced by all the Bic lighters that must have been hoisted up during its performance. And the triumphant version of “School’s Out” features a stellar drum solo by Ken Mary and some lead bass prowess by a (then) young Kip Winger.
