“I think sometimes less noise [in production] allows the feeling of a song to cut through better,” Debbie tells Apple Music. “I always prefer recording in an intimate way, and singing is my first love, so anything that gives me a chance to sing, I’m up for it. I’ve also stacked a lot of backing vocals—it’s a trademark of mine.” Grabbing her chance here with both hands, the London-born artist impresses with a stirring cover of Candi Staton’s “Young Hearts Run Free.” “To me, it was always a happy, upbeat song, something I would imagine people dancing to at festivals—until one day I took a second to actually listen to the lyrics,” she says. “I was blown away by the meaning it held, and now I want other people to experience this side of the song—which is why it’s become an obsession of mine recently.” You can also hear an acoustic version of the singer’s single “All Night Long” in this Apple Music Home Session.
