About Teriyaki Boyz

Championed by American superproducers like Pharrell and Kanye West, the Japanese rap outfit Teriyaki Boyz took their nation’s hip-hop sound worldwide. • DJ, producer, and founder of the A Bathing Ape streetwear brand Nigo recruited rappers Ilmari and Ryo-Zo from the group Rip Slyme, rapper Verbal from the group M-Flo, and rapper Wise to form the Teriyaki Boyz. • The group made their first appearance on “Kamizake 108,” off Nigo’s 2004 compilation album (B)Ape Sounds. • Teriyaki Boyz delivered their debut album, Beef or Chicken, in 2005. Boasting a team of big-time producers, including Jermaine Dupri, The Neptunes, and Daft Punk, the album peaked at No. 4 on the Oricon Albums Chart. • The following year, Teriyaki Boyz released “Tokyo Drift (Fast & Furious),” the theme song of the action film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. • Their final album, 2009’s Serious Japanese, features the singles “Zock On!” (featuring Pharrell and Busta Rhymes) and “Work That!” (featuring Pharrell and Chris Brown)—both of which went Top 10 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. The single “I Still Love H.E.R.” was produced by Kanye West.
