About Edmundo Ros
After studying at London's Royal Academy of Music, Edmundo Ros plied his trade in Don Barretto’s band in the 1940s, and then went on to form his own U.K.-based, five-piece unit, Rumba With Ros. For the next 35 years, Ros enjoyed great success with the group, applying complex Latin rhythms to popular songs of the day. Ros scored hits with numbers such as "Enjoy Yourself," "Tico Tico," and especially "The Wedding Samba." In the early '60s, he collaborated on an album with Ted Heath but as tastes changed Ros’s music fell from favor. He retired to Spain, emerging occasionally for events such as his 80th birthday celebration in 1990. Ros was awarded the OBE in 2000.
