Congolese singer-songwriter and guitar player Fally Ipupa began his career as a guitarist in Congolese band Quartier Latin. Mentored by Koffi Olomide, he soon became restless with the restraints of someone else's group and set out on his own in 2006. Blending tradition with modernity, soukous with ndombolo and R&B, Ipupa established a loyal fanbase with his debut, with critical plaudits soon following with the arrival of 2009's Arsenal de Belles Mélodies.
