Casino Shanghai were forerunners of electronic music in Mexico, shaking up a cultural panorama that received its arrival like the landing of a flying saucer. Elegant, dramatic and exotic, they caused a real commotion with their synthetic sound, extravagant staging and manifest intention to take electronic music far beyond mere dance music. They constantly experimented with all kinds of textures and developed a lyrical universe much more serious and substantial than usual in that style. The results were songs like “Hollow Bodies”, “Breathless” and “Lip to Lip”. With pure avant-garde sounds, Casino Shanghai didn’t need to envy contemporary European bands from like Soft Cell, Human League and OMD.
