“Every time I go into the studio, I try to make it an experience,” Eladio Carrión tells Apple Music. One of the rawest talents in the Latin trap movement, he saw his promising rap career take off in a major way when Bad Bunny joined him on the viral single “Kemba Walker.” While that kind of collaboration would be the stuff of just about any up-and-coming trapper’s dreams, his 2019 also included “Mi Error” with none other than reggaetón star Zion. “That was the first track where I finally got accepted to that invisible circle in the music industry,” he says. Recorded while under quarantine in Colombia, his latest project Sauce Boyz Care Package demonstrates not only how far he’s come since those crucial team-ups but also how loyal he remains to the trap sound that brought him into the game. “When I come to the booth, I try and do two things: find a new way on how I can murder the beat, and secondly, how can I connect with the people who are listening,” he says. In line with a wave of robust deluxe edition additions in hip-hop, the project features 10 tracks on top of the 16 of the still smoldering Sauce Boyz mixtape from earlier in 2020. Here Carrión discusses the making of these songs and what they mean to him. Ele Uve “I met this dope producer here called Soteldo, my partner during the whole quarantine. We did probably 20 songs, and that was the first one. This kid named Santos, he sent us some loops. That was how we started making the project, because it sounded so cool. There's a punchline in probably every bar. It's a fun song to sit down and listen to and just appreciate the writing. And you can bop to it.” Hielo (Remix) “I really don't do remixes of a lot of my music, but if I have a feature on a remix, it's because I just really want to hear that person on that track. Dalex was the one person that I said, 'Okay, he's going to sound super dope. I know he'll do a great job.' And he brought that R&B with the trap and it made it sound more sexy, it made it sound more sexy. I'm so happy with what he did.” Molly Con Henny 2 “Every day I was recording with Soteldo, and we made this song that we liked a lot, but it was only like a minute long. So we said, how about we make another beat and have a beat change so we can make it longer. And when we made the beat change, I started singing the hook for ‘Molly Con Henny.’ I just put the same hook in there and put a 16 and that's it. That song is another vibe, it's crazy. It's two completely different beats, but it sounds so nice, both of them together.” Vida Buena (Remix) “First of all, Arcángel kills everything that he does. Anything he touches is gold. I really don't do a lot of happy traps like that. All of my traps are more darker than that, for the streets. And all of his traps are dark, so I thought it would be really cool to show another side, a happy side. I just feel great, I'm living life. I just want people to see that part of it.” Sin Ti “I enjoy making romantic, danceable music, reggaetón and the mainstream stuff. I don't do it that much, but when I do it, I like to tell a story, and I think 'Sin Ti' is a relatable story. I always try to connect with people who hear me. And that's a song that everyone goes through—you're trying to get this person's attention, but they don't want to be with you. You wake up another day without them, and it's just this never-ending sadness. It'll have people thinking about a special someone.” Ponte Linda (Remix) “I love working on the spot and meeting the artists, that whole vibe and the creative process. It was just such a bummer that we had to do all this via email, but it was the first time I worked with Farruko. As a matter of fact, I wanted to have Farruko on it since the beginning. When they gave me the song back with him on it, I just heard it and I went nuts because he killed it exactly how I predicted that he would kill it. It was like the song was meant for him.” Especial “That was that song I made with Kevin y Chan, The Rude Boyz. I just fell in love with the song. It's catchy; it’s a feel-good trap. It's a song you can just hear, not think about someone breaking your heart, but think about someone that actually makes you feels special. The beat is super wavy. I'm going to try and get someone from the US on my remix. I could say the person that I would love to have on that song, but I keep it 100 with myself. I fuck with a lot of those rappers, man. I'm just little by little getting inside to that pool. I have some stuff coming up with a lot of rappers in the US. I feel like I really can vibe with them. And when we go to the studio, it's really dope.” Corona Freestyle “That was the second song that I recorded. When I actually recorded it, it didn't have a beat, only the loop. I think maybe 80 percent of the music I make, I record on loops and then they put the kicks, the hi-hats and everything. That was probably the fastest song that I wrote out of the 10. When I write, I don't write, I just hear a beat and start improvising on the mic. 'Corona Freestyle' is the perfect example of that, because the feeling I had that day was exactly the feeling I had on that song. One of those personal freestyles, but I think people will like a lot, the emotions built up after being in quarantine for a while.” Tu Amor “Like I said, I really don't put out romantic stuff a lot. It's easy to sit back and just chill, hear what I have to say. But it's a nice reggaetón. It brings me back to the old school. The loop, Santos did it. The loops have so much feeling in it. I would just go in a trance and go in on the beat. They were super dope. I enjoyed making that song a lot.” Entre Tantas “That song, I put it out when I was starting off. I think that there's so many people that need to know about that song, because it's one of my favorites. I was going to take two old songs and do a remix, but I decided to leave 'Entre Tantas' how it was. I think that people that are hearing me now should hear. Even if it's 10 years old, for me it's a classic.”
