Anders Widmark is a jazz pianist and composer from Sweden who began his recording career in the early '90s and was most successful after the turn of the century, when he collaborated with vocalists Sara Isaksson and Helen Sjöholm on a series of popular jazz-pop albums. Born in 1963 in Uppsala, Sweden, Widmark began composing music on piano at age seven. He made his album debut as a composer in 1990 on Claes Janson's full-length debut, Frestelser. He made his solo album debut the following year in collaboration with jazz-pop vocalist Rebecka Törnqvist on Sylvesters Sista Resa (1991), which was also her full-length debut. Upon signing a recording deal with Sony Music, he released Anders Widmark and the Soul Quartet (1992), an acid jazz-styled album that was forward-looking for its time. Subsequent solo albums include Holly Hannah (1994), Freewheelin (1995), Anders Widmark (1996), and Psalmer (1997), which were released on a variety of labels. At the turn of the century he released the first of several albums in association with Universal Music, Carmen (2000). He collaborated with vocalist Sara Isaksson on the follow-up album, Anders Widmark Featuring Sara Isaksson (2002). It was his most successful full-length release to date, reaching number 31 on the Swedish albums chart. Widmark's next album, Genom Varje Andetag (2003), was another collaboration, this time with vocalist Helen Sjöholm, and it too was a big hit, reaching number 11 on the charts. A couple solo albums followed, Hymn (2004) and Waiting for a Train (2006), before Widmark teamed up once again with Isaksson. The resulting album, Pool of Happiness (2008), was a Top Ten hit, Widmark's most popular release to date. ~ Jason Birchmeier
