English synth-pop idols Depeche Mode create anthems for goths and outsiders on their 1984 classic Some Great Reward. With its iconic cover art and controversial, whip-cracking single “Master and Servant,” the album explores the pleasures of twisted love and the tensions between man and drum machine. Martin Gore’s songwriting is brilliant on “Somebody,” a dewy-eyed piano ballad written from a cynic's perspective, while the layered samples and synths of “If You Want” lock into a sweaty cyborg hoedown.
