A hybrid group of sorts, Denmark's the Loft formed in 1997 as the brainchild of fellow students Jakob Weise Hellum and Martin Bøge Pedersen. Melding pop, R&B, and rock, the Loft got their first taste of success after recording a handful of tracks for the soundtrack to the film Den Eneste Ene in 1999. The soundtrack itself became a huge hit, and the Loft began work on their full-length debut. The album, No Ordinary Man, was released in 2004, and its sales were bolstered by the leadoff single, "City of Dreams." In 2005, Hellum and Pedersen embarked on a full schedule of touring, stopping only to work on tracks for their follow-up effort. In 2008, the Loft released album number three, Little Paul's Blvd., which managed a respectable placing in the Danish charts, peaking at number nine. ~ Chris True
