2 Alivë (Geëk Pack)

At 29 tracks and almost an hour and a half in length, the balaclava-donning MC Yeat offers tours into his alien world on 2 Alivë (Geëk Pack). The umlaut-obsessed, vocoder-heavy bon vivant has always relished the mystery his face coverings offer, but on 2 Alivë (Geëk Pack), he offers a look into what makes him tick: drugs, luxury clothing, inventive flows, and beats so far out of this world they sound like they’ve been sent straight from the International Space Station. With features from Young Thug, Gunna, Ken Car$on, Lil Uzi Vert, and more, the Portland-raised, L.A.-based MC aligns himself with the also-UFO-obsessed ATLiens who have helped turn the Peach State capital into one of the most innovative hubs in rap. Yeat, equally willing to assert himself in contrast to his guests or mimic their styles like a shadow, showcases his versatility in his willingness to flex alongside and in service of these songs. Take his major-label debut opener, “Poppin,” which boasts booming bass notes from producer BenjiCold. Yeat sings of a lavish lifestyle, paying homage to some of the guests on this record, like Lil Uzi Vert, who has always shared a dedication to all things rock ‘n’ roll. He raps, “Slide in the coupes, we fucked the driveway up/Hopped inside the mansion, fucked the drywall up.” It may not be trashing a hotel room like Mötley Crüe, but the rockers would surely be proud of his penchant for destruction. On the Gunna-assisted “Rackz got më,” Yeat leads the way, offering his co-conspirator plenty of opportunities to parrot his flexes of luxury and wealth. “Yeah, I just added up bands for some Rick/I just pulled up on them with the twenty-two fit,” Yeat spits, offering up a tribute to one of rap’s favorite designers, Rick Owens. Gunna builds on this theme, rapping, “Elliot, VVS/Givenchy mink vest.” On the tracks throughout 2 Alivë (Geëk Pack), Yeat leads the way, icing up his numbers with glimmering diamonds, luxury jeans, and, of course, designer balaclavas.
