Initially formed as a bedroom-recording outfit by Ben Trow and Llinos Griffiths, the Wrexham-based outfit Seazoo delivered their first EP, the self-released Ken, in April 2013. Channeling the American indie rock of Pavement and Grandaddy with the off-kilter, wonky pop of fellow Welsh natives Super Furry Animals and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, their songs quickly found an audience through airplay on the BBC. Although the group meant to remain a bedroom-recording outfit, they formed a full band with Steffan Owens (drums), Dan West (guitar), and Mike Smith (bass), to perform their first gig just a few months later at the Llangollen Fringe Festival in North Wales. A second single, "Dog Hotel," followed in October. Playing live shows and recording material, the group had the continued support of the BBC as part of its Horizons partnership with the Arts Council of Wales to promote new independent music. 2015 saw the group invited to Maida Vale studios to record a session for BBC DJ and former Fall bassist Marc Riley, and a few months later, they released their next EP, Car Deborah, which was once again recorded at home by Trow and Griffiths. That year also saw them start work on their debut album. More live dates followed and in 2016, the group delivered the single "Teeth" for the Too Pure singles club. Although it had taken them nearly two years to record, the first fruits of their debut album appeared in 2017 in the form of the singles "Dig," "Roy's World," and "Shoreline." The BBC once again championed the band, playlisting their singles and inviting them back for a second session, again for the Marc Riley show. At the beginning of 2018, Seazoo finally self-released their debut album, Trunks, which was recorded at home by Trow and Griffiths. ~ Rich Wilson
