The Release Party

The Release Party

Onetime kings of the California underground, Dilated Peoples dropped several excellent 12-inches (including the KutMasta Kurt–produced classic "Work the Angles") and built up a serious global following before parlaying their indie success into a major-label deal. Known for a straight-up rhyme style (from Evidence and Rakka Iriscience), thunderous beats, higher-level scratching (DJ Babu on the wheels), a dedicated B-boy mentality, and always-hype live show, Dilated Peoples put out four albums on Capitol but never really got the promotion or label support they deserved. The Release Party celebrates the end of their corporate ties and accompanies a documentary DVD reflecting on their long musical journey. The title track and "Spit It Clearly" are both brand-new, and we also get great remixes for older joints like "Mr. Slow Flow," "Hot and Cold" (featuring Casual), and "The Eyes Have It."
