Today Is the Day

After a lengthy sabbatical from the studio, Christian singer/songwriter Lincoln Brewster returns with an album filled with reverently-conceived and vigorously-performed worship tunes. As before, the Sacramento-based artist anchors his music in his muscular yet nuanced guitar work. In tracks like “Everywhere I Go,” “God You Rein” and the title tune, he lays down galvanizing lead lines while offering hosannas to his Savior. There’s a certain ‘80s sensibility found here, noticeable in the Mr. Mister-like synth textures of “God You Reign” and the Dire Straits-esque sultriness of “The Power of Your Name.” Brewster displays an affinity for traditional gospel on “Give Him Praise,” an exuberant number featuring fellow worship artist Israel Houghton. Subdued acoustic pieces (“The Love of God”) and swaggering rockers (“Let Your Glory Shine”) set the album’s sonic perimeters. Within these confines, Brewster fills his testimony with a palpable sense of gratitude and joy. There's no denying Brewster’s unstoppable faith or his unflagging musical prowess.
