Paris-Moscou

Paris-Moscou

Two young French musicians, both with impressive individual careers, come together for this celebration of the musical relationship between Paris and Moscow. Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata is the big work here, and they play it with great passion and a lovely singing line. Moscow is further represented with miniatures by Stravinsky and Prokofiev, plus Rimsky-Korsakov’s Le vol du bourdon. Paris provides memorable melodies and lashings of Gallic charm via a couple of operatic aria transcriptions (the Massenet works well) and some Fauré bonnes bouches, including the ever-popular Pavane and Berceuse. La Marca’s plangent, expressive cello sound fuses beautifully with de la Salle’s more impassioned style of pianism.
