About Roman Flügel

A chameleonic presence in German house music and beyond, Roman Flügel is reliably playful in any mode. Born in 1970 in Darmstadt, he took up piano and drums as a child before discovering body-moving club sounds as a teen. Flügel linked up with more seasoned Darmstadt producer Jörn Elling Wuttke at the dawn of the 1990s, co-founding the duo Alter Ego and other projects before graduating to high-profile remixes for Daft Punk and Kylie Minogue. On the solo front, he slung varied output as Roman IV and Soylent Green before scoring his first breakout hit with the chirruping 2004 earworm “Geht’s Noch?”, a rallying cry for the emerging electro-house scene. Flügel has grown steadily more circuitous with his subsequent work, while always pursuing a distinct vision from release to release, contrasting the throwback arcade-style maximalism of 2022’s Mega EP with delicate, understated ambience on Balmy Evening.
