American artist Sheherazaad grew up on a rich diet of jazz and folk alongside the works of Indian powerhouses like R.D. Burman and Lata Mangeshkar. She honed her English singing skills early but later focused on Hindustani classical styles, creating the unique vocal style that floats above each of Qasr’s five tracks. The singer and composer, who is of Indian descent, works with Pakistani producer Arooj Aftab to craft a dynamic and often tense piece of work that skilfully blends wistful Hindi and Urdu lyrics. “Mashoor” is a suspenseful opener before “Dhund Lo Mujhe” becomes a moving, buzzy highlight.
