About Joseph Calleja

Joseph Calleja began studying voice when he was 16. Just three years later, he debuted professionally as Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth, and then in the next year, won the 1998 Caruso Competition, named after the subject of the film that originally inspired him: The Great Caruso. The tenor quickly became an in-demand performer of Romantic Italian and French opera. In 2003, he signed with Decca, releasing his first album of opera excerpts, Tenor Arias, in 2004. In 2012, he released Be My Love, a tribute to Mario Lanza, his movie star inspiration. The same year, he performed at the prestigious Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London, and was named Gramophone magazine's Artist of the Year. In 2023, Calleja issued the album, Sacred Arias.
