On his debut solo EP, A. R. Rahman’s prolific protégé makes clear he can craft emotive English-language pop with the same delicacy and aplomb as his polished playback work. In opener “Parasite”, a strummed acoustic guitar is juxtaposed skilfully against the potent lyrical realisation of self-worth. Meanwhile, the catchy, hook-driven coda “Please My Mind” is a sophisticated indie pop gem where Gattani gleefully flexes his compositional chops. Between them and shining throughout are the singer-songwriter’s transcendent yet seemingly effortless vocal performances.
